Lauren White Carlan
Chair of the Board

Lauren White Carlan, a Tampa Bay native, was raised to recognize and appreciate the power of philanthropy on the specific needs in her community.  A graduate of Clearwater Central Catholic High School, Lauren received her RN degree from the University of Florida. 

From her days as a pediatric nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and as a busy mother of four young children, Lauren has used her compassion and skills to help others in need.  Her relationships formed in various volunteer organizations furthered her understanding of the many needs in this community. 

As the Chairperson of The White Family Foundation since 2006, Lauren has direct experience with the charitable organizations in the Tampa Bay Area.  Through her efforts and those of her family’s foundation she has used the power of philanthropy to partner with many organizations.

Founders

Joe White
Founder & Finance Committee

Joe grew up in Pinellas County and attended local schools and Florida colleges. After serving in Vietnam from 1968-69, Joe joined his father at Castle Supply Company. He successfully led Castle Supply for 35 years. It was sold it in 2006, at which time Joe, JoAnn, their daughters, Megan and Lauren established the White Family Foundation.

Joe enjoyed a few years of retirement, but his business drive remained strong, and he now owns Hydrologic Distribution, with five stores in the Tampa Bay area, serving the wholesale plumbing and contracting trade.

Joe is an active parishioner and serves on several committees at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Joe also serves on several diocesan boards and is former president of the Catholic Foundation.  He and his wife, Jo Ann, have two beautiful married daughters and seven amazing grandchildren.   

JoAnn White
Founder & Secretary

Born in Pottsville, PA, JoAnn has called Pinellas County, FL, home since childhood. She attended Boca Ciega High School, St. Petersburg Jr. College, and graduated from the University of Florida with her degree in secondary education. JoAnn enjoyed teaching English to middle school and high school students. She and Joe married in 1969, and together they raised three children and built Castle Supply Company.

JoAnn values her family, children, grandchildren, and finding opportunities to pass on her love of education to others. Reading and writing are her passion! She is an active member of her local parish, St. Jerome Catholic Church. JoAnn believes strongly that philanthropy begins in the heart and in the home. Passing it on to others is a privilege and responsibility.

Trustees

John Anderson
Trustee

Growing up in Clearwater Beach, John has a profound love for Florida, the Gulf Coast, and boating life. John attended St. Paul’s School, Clearwater Central Catholic, and obtained his business degree from Rockhurst University. Following in the footsteps of his entrepreneurial parents, John achieved his commercial real estate license, established his own brokerage firm, and worked successfully for many years in this industry.

In 2012, he and his wife, Megan, established Medicaid Done Right, where he serves as Partner and CEO. MDR provides Medicaid application services nationally. John has carried on the family legacy of philanthropic commitment in Tampa Bay, serving on the board of the Pinellas County Police Athletic League for many years. As a Trustee, John brings to the Board a passion and heart for those in need in this community.

Megan White Anderson
Trustee & Finance Committee

Growing up in Largo, Megan has a love for the beauty of our water community and enjoys boating with her family and yoga.  Megan attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Clearwater Central Catholic, and obtained her accounting degree from the University of Florida and her MBA from the University of Tennessee.  Following grad school, Megan rejoined her father in their family business, Castle Supply, and loved working as part of a true family business until the sale of the company in 2006.  

For the past 5 years, Megan has enjoyed balancing her love as a stay at home Mom and her role as a business accountant.  Megan’s goal with the Foundation is to carry on her parent’s legacy of charitable giving in the Tampa Bay area while leading by example for her three sons.  As a Trustee, Megan brings to the Board a passion and heart for all those in need in this community, especially children and animals.

Doug Carlan
Trustee

A valued Trustee since the Foundation’s inception in 2006, Doug grew up in the St. Petersburg, Florida area as a member of a large local family with a strong commitment to philanthropy. He attended undergraduate studies at the University of Florida and graduated with Honors with a degree in Medicine from UF in 2000. After completing his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Carlan achieved a Fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.

He currently serves those in Tampa Bay through his practice at Eaton Orthopaedics in St. Petersburg. Dr. Carlan is honored to serve as a consultant for the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Bluejays, and the Lakeland Tigers.

Doug and Lauren Carlan reside in Gulf Port, Florida with their adored three daughters and one son. Doug enjoys many out-door activities, including boating and running.

David Herman
Trustee

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, David Herman spent the majority of his childhood in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from Ohio State University with a BS in Business Administration and he has held his license as a General Contractor since 1985. As President of Herman Construction Services, Inc., David follows a long line of community leaders. Herman Construction is a family owned and operated business since 1977 in South Florida and the Tampa Bay area. They are renowned for their integrity and exceptional project quality and scope. The Herman family has a strong and proven commitment to various philanthropic efforts throughout Florida. David has served as a Trustee on the White Family Foundation board since inception in 2006.

Jay Rooth
Trustee

As a Tampa Bay native, Jay spent the majority of his childhood in Largo, Florida, where he attended St. Patrick’s School. After graduating from Stetson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Master’s in Business Administration, Jay received his Juris Doctorate from Barry University School of Law in 2002.

After a successful start in the State Attorney’s Office (Ninth Judicial Circuit), Jay became a founding partner of the Moses and Rooth Attorneys at Law in Orlando, Florida. This criminal defense firm serves clients in Central Florida and routinely supports State and Federal cases throughout Florida.  

Jay has maintained a strong connection to the Tampa Bay community where he grew up. Working as a criminal defense attorney, Jay has seen first hand many of the impacts a community can have from mental health, poor education and poverty. He is committed to making a difference in our community.  The White Family Foundation has provided him with the opportunity to identify the greatest need in our community and make an impact.

Amy Stanton
Trustee & Treasurer

As a native of Tampa Bay, Amy graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors of Accounting and from University of Florida with a Masters of Accounting-Taxation. She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 2001.

After working in public accounting for Ernst & Young, Amy joined BayCare Health System in 2006 and continues to provide value in various financial, accounting, treasury & tax roles.

Amy and her husband, Jason, have three sons; they are actively involved in the Clearwater and Pinellas County area. As a close friend of the White family since childhood, Amy has been honored to serve as a founding trustee with the White Family Foundation since 2006. She enjoys offering her time and talents for the benefit of the community.

Our Team

Ruth Banther
Grant Coordinator and Family Foundation Advisor

Ruth Banther has served for 12 years as The White Family Foundation’s Grant Coordinator and back office Administrator. In this role, Ruth has brought her non-profit consulting and administration expertise to benefit the Foundation with their Board Governance and Training, Family Non Profit Advising, Grant Program Administration, and Family Foundation back office finance and operations. Ruth appreciates the needed dialogue between grantor and grantee and how family philanthropy, rightly done, creates better communities, better families, and better individuals. Ruth and her family reside in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
